Kobiton surveyed 150 testers from businesses with 50 or more workers across a variety of sectors to get a better sense of the responses to these questions.
Product testers are increasingly depending on automation due to the need to reduce testing costs while simultaneously increasing both software quality and customer satisfaction.
To provide some perspective, two distinct approaches to software testing exist: manual and automated. Automation is preferred by many testers since it speeds up development and improves app performance; manual testing is still widely used but isn’t appropriate for repeating tests. It’s worth noting that forty percent of testers who participated in Kobiton’s survey cited better user experience as the key reason they employ automation.
Advances in automation have allowed software testers to spend less time manually inspecting code.
Half of the testers we surveyed two years ago indicated their automation programmes were new, and 76 percent said they automated less than 50 percent of all tests, according to Kevin Lee, CEO of Kobiton. To see how far the industry has gone, consider the fact that “almost 100% of testers participating in this year’s research are employing automation.”
New recruits with expertise in automated testing are also a priority for hiring managers. According to the results of a survey conducted by Kobiton, automation expertise is one of the top three abilities that employers want in potential hires.
What are some applications of automation? In Kobiton’s poll, 34% of participants reported employing automation for both regression and new feature testing.
And it has improved their productivity. Nearly half (47%) of those polled estimated that manual testing would take between three and five days prior to a release, whereas automated testing could do the same task in three to six hours.
